Worker sues ex-Rota senator
An alien worker has sued former Rota senator Edward U. Maratita Sr. for allegedly refusing to pay her $5,157.59 in back wages pursuant to a settlement agreement in a labor case.
Annie Blaza sued Edward Maratita and Dominic C. Maratita for breach of contract.
Blaza, who filed the case without the assistance of a lawyer, asked the Superior Court to order the Maratitas to pay her the remaining back wages, plus fees and court costs.
Blaza was among four employees of Bay Breeze Restaurant on Rota who filed a labor case against the establishment’s owners, the Maratitas.
Blaza stated that that on Feb. 12, 2008, Labor accepted their settlement agreement, stating that plaintiff’s due back wages amount to $5,877.59.
She said the Maratitas paid her $720 on Aug. 16, 2008.
“Despite the repeated follow-up to the defendants, no payment has been received by the plaintiff,” the worker said.
Blaza said that, as of Jan. 22, 2009, defendants have an outstanding balance of back wages owed her in the amount of $5,157.59.
Edward Maratita, a Republican, served as Rota senator from 1990 to 1994 and from 1998 to 2002.
