Former Senate President Joaquin G. Adriano Sr. was found dead inside his home in Koblerville Thursday afternoon and police have initially ruled out foul play, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.

DPS Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela told Saipan Tribune that responding police officers had to break a window to get inside Adriano’s house.

Tudela said that Adriano’s body was already in the first stage of decomposition when police came in.

“The son called up the police, so the police went up there. We are waiting for an autopsy,” the commissioner said.

Adriano, 49, lived alone in the house. His son last checked on him two days prior to Thursday’s discovery of Adriano’s body, Tudela said.

DPS spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said that DPS received a call at 1:58pm from an Adriano family member reporting a possible dead person in the house.

Upon entering the house, officers discovered the body of the deceased, Ogumoro said.

Adriano was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:16pm.

“Detectives are still looking into the cause of death. This case is pending further investigation by the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau,” Ogumoro said.

Adriano was named Senate president in 2004. In 2005, he ran for the Tinian mayoralty but lost.
