Hamoy, Cabo rule 8-Ball tournaments

Hamoy prevailed in the Thursday Night 8-Ball Open Tournament besting 13 other cue artists, while Cabo ruled the 8-Ball Open Tournament defeating 10 other participants.
Cabo overcame Senen Pangelinan’s twice-to-beat advantage to win the double-elimination tournament and pocket the $75 prize and a trophy.
Cabo downed Patrick Taitano in his first game, defeated Juancho Mendoza next, and then Boyet Soriano to advance to the semifinals.
In the semis of the winners’ bracket, Cabo was paired with the unbeaten Pangelinan, who won over Franz De Luna, Hamoy, and Eric Santos.
Pangelinan marched to the finals with a twice-to-beat advantage after thumping Cabo, who dropped to the losers’ bracket.
In the losers’ bracket, Cabo faced Soriano and won to earn a rematch with Pangelinan in the finals.
Soriano, who prevailed against Gary Pangelinan in his first match and had a chance to challenge Cabo for the last finals berth after beating Santos, settled for third place.
Hamoy was the first finalist in the Thursday Night tournament after sweeping his first four matches. His first victim was Taylor Watanabe, followed by Mel Usi, Soriano, and Mendoza.
Hamoy’s foe in the finals was Soriano, who needed to win twice to steal the victory. Soriano came from the losers’ bracket and had to down two more opponents to make it to the finals. He thwarted Usi in the losers’ bracket quarterfinals and moved into the title match after outlasting Mendoza in the semifinals.
