The NMIFA Referee Committee will hold a Basic Referee Training Clinic starting next week. The classroom venue will be the NMIFA office, 3rd floor, TSL Plaza, Garapan. Field venue is yet to be announced.

The Jan. 29 schedule will be from 6pm to 8pm and will serve as an introduction to the course.

It continues on Jan. 30, also during the same time with the field instruction part of the course set the next day on Jan. 31 from 8am to 12 and 1:30pm to 4pm.

The Basic Referee Training Clinic resumes a week later on Feb. 7 with the question-and-answer portion of the course plus an examination. The final day of the course will be from 9am to 11am (field) and 1pm to 4pm (classroom).

Anyone age 14 and older who is interested in learning the laws of the game is invited to attend. Certification will allow attendees to referee in youth games, and with added experience, then referee higher levels including high school, women’s and men’s leagues. Interscholastic coaches and school referees are encouraged to attend.

“Football has spread like wildfire in the CNMI, and good officials are always needed to support the many leagues. We welcome young people, parents, and players to attend the clinic to learn the laws of the game and give back by becoming an official for NMIFA. Refereeing gives you the opportunity to learn more about the game, and in turn, teach others so everyone can enjoy the sport more,” said Catherine Perry Anderson, NMIFA Referee Committee member.
