The NMI Retirement Fund is reminding people that the group’s health insurance provider, Aetna Global Benefits, is accepted at three hospitals in the Philippines.

The hospitals include: Asian Hospital & Medical Center, Makati Medical Center, and Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital

St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City is not officially contracted with Aetna, but they have allowed for one-time direct settlements, according to the Retirement Fund.

Mark Aguon, administrator of the Retirement Fund, said Aetna has always been accepted at the hospitals, but is reminding people because the agency often gets asked about it.

Many people go to the Philippines because it is cheaper than flying to Hawaii or the mainland, Aguon said.

Government employees and retirees receiving a pension from the Fund are recommended to make arrangements prior to traveling, the Fund said.

“The Retirement Fund’s board of trustees and Fund management continue to work closely with Aetna in order to identify ways to provide the best quality health care to Fund members available in the Pacific region,” a Fund statement said.
