Interested participants in the 2009 Winter of Festival of Runs have until tomorrow to turn in their registration forms and gain entry to the three races this weekend.

Entrance forms and fees will be accepted until 4:30pm during the race orientation at the American Memorial Park Amphitheater.

Registration fee is $45 for the marathon and $35 for the half-marathon and 10K races. No entries will be accepted on the day of the race, which is this Saturday.

Marianas Visitors Authority and other agencies that volunteered their services for the event are asking for the cooperation of motorists/dog owners during the race day to ensure the safety of the participants.

Races will begin as early as 4:30am with participants in the 42.195-km marathon starting and finishing the event at Micro Beach. Race time for the 21.079-km half marathon and the 10K race is at 5:45am.

From Micro Beach, runners in the full marathon will head north along Middle Road through the villages of Puerto Rico, Tanapag, and San Roque; turn around in Marpi right before reaching the Far East Broadcasting Company turnoff; and return to connect with the half marathon course.

The half marathon course will begin at Micro Beach south on Beach Road along Saipan’s western lagoon going through the villages of Garapan, San Jose, Susupe, Chalan Kanoa, and San Antonio, turning around San Antonio basketball court and returning at Micro Beach. The 10K Fun Run will have the same starting point with runners cruising Beach Road and passing the villages of Garapan and San Jose, making a turn at the Pacific Outlet, and returning to Micro Beach.

Organizers will be using automated, chip-technology timing system from Keisoku-kobo for the three races.

This year’s Festival of Runs is being supported by Northwest Airlines, Oakley, MVA, Northern Marianas Athletics, and DFS Galleria Saipan. Other sponsors are Department of Public Safety, Hawaiian Rock, American Memorial Park, Division of Parks and Recreation, Department of Public Works, and Commonwealth Health Center.
