Over 40 presenters from different professions participated in the annual Career Day at Marianas High School yesterday.

The presenters came from various sections of the community, including private and government agencies. These included artists, athletes, businessmen, entrepreneurs, company managers, lawyers, judges, doctors, customs officers, dentists, immigration officers, hoteliers, Army officers, lawmakers, teachers, and environmentalists.

Prominent government officials included Rep. Tina Sablan and Commerce Secretary Michael Ada. Superior Court judges David Wiseman and Kenneth Govendo also showed up for the three-hour presentations at all 41 classrooms.

The Counseling Department of MHS led by Hazel Tudela coordinated this year’s activity.

Counselor Cherlyn Cabrera said each of the 1,248 students had the chance to learn about the different careers they may later pursue in life.

Artist and entrepreneur Toki Mojica emphasized the importance of preserving the local culture by means of handicrafts.

“You must learn to know your abilities, put them to good use, always do the right thing by learning what you are and who you are and continue to learn the values you have learned from your ancestors,” Mojica said.

She stressed the importance of education in order to gain more knowledge of the things around the islands.

“I’m here to share and hope to touch your heart today. Like me, you should learn to manage your time in order to manage your life the right way,” she told the students.

She emphasized that, in order to be successful, things must be done from the heart, and not by way of shortcuts.

“Never take advantage of other people. This is the way to live a very successful life,” she said.

“You must find the things you like to do. Be passionate because passion will never be wrong. You must learn how to balance your life and learn how to be flexible,” she said.
