PDI, KNT eye Saipan and Tinian charters
Following the success of its Rota charter flights, Pacific Development, Inc. is looking at the possibility of launching holiday packages to the rest of the CNMI—Saipan and Tinian.
Company president Yoichi Matsumura said PDI will pursue the additional Saipan and Tinian charter projects with its parent company, KNT Kinki Nippon Tourist Co., Ltd.
“PDI also proposes charter projects to Tinian and Saipan. The senior managing director of KNT, Mr. Yoshinori Ochi, will be traveling to CNMI to make a courtesy call to the governor the middle part of January 2009 to extend KNT’s appreciation for the support it received for the Rota charter project in 2008 and discuss proposed 2009 plans for Rota charter and the CNMI tourism industry in general,” he said.
Matsumura also clarified that instead of 40 charter flights in 2009, PDI and KNT will only be organizing 30 holiday tour packages to Rota this year.
“As we have done and succeeded in the Rota charters and making it a reality, PDI also intends to work out with KNT and take on the challenge of introducing charter flights to Tinian and Saipan,” he said.
The Rota charter flight are expected to bring in some 8,000 tourists to Rota in about a year. KNT has chartered Continental Airlines to bring in the Rota flights. Continental Airlines has been using its 155-seater Boeing 737 aircraft to service the island.
