Man allegedly hits woman with bench
An intoxicated man allegedly hit his girlfriend with a wooden bench, even as she was holding their two-week-old baby in one arm outside their house in San Vicente Wednesday night.
Cleofin N. Masao, 36, was served Thursday with a complaint that charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.
Masao was taken to the Superior Court yesterday morning for a bail hearing. Associate Judge Perry B. Inos imposed a $600 cash bail plus $5,400 in unsecured bond for the defendant’s temporary release.
Arraignment was set for Jan. 26.
Police said the victim suffered injuries and was subsequently placed in the Battered Women’s Shelter for safety.
Detective Andrea C. Ozawa stated in her report that on Wednesday night police officers responded to San Vicente after a caller reported a domestic violence incident.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the intoxicated Masao had fled the area on board a car with his one-year-old baby.
The victim told one of the responding police officers that a drunk Masao had arrived home between 8:30pm and 9pm.
The defendant allegedly slapped and punched the victim in the face. He also allegedly hit her with a wooden bench.
A witness told police that Masao held the two-week-old baby in one arm and used his other hand to hit the victim. He gave the baby to her then hit her again with the bench.
The other children managed to get out from the car, but the one-year-old child was left inside. Masao then boarded the vehicle and drove off with the baby.
Police arrested Masao at 11:15pm. He was detained and later released. Police arrested him again on Wednesday afternoon after a complaint was filed.
