Male tourist drowns at Micro Beach
A tourist drowned while swimming with his daughter at Micro Beach in Garapan last week, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.
DPS spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said Takeyuki Wakasa, 59, a Japanese, was pronounced dead by a doctor at the Commonwealth Health Center on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 3:21pm.
Ogumoro said Wakasa, who had a history of chest pain and shortness of breathing, was found with fluid in his lungs.
Ogumoro said that DPS received a report of a possible drowning incident at Micro Beach Tuesday last week at 2:56pm.
According to the preliminary investigation, Wakasa was swimming with his 13-year-old daughter when he decided to go further toward the deeper part of the ocean. The daughter remained near the shoreline.
About 30 minutes to an hour later, Wakasa was found motionless and face down on the surface of the water, a quarter mile from the beach.
The victim was placed aboard a commercial boat. He had no pulse and was not breathing. Ogumoro said cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered on the victim.
Medics then transported the victim to CHC for further treatment, but he was later pronounced dead.
Last Nov. 22, a fishing boat crew member reportedly drowned when he fell into the ocean near the island of Guguan.
