Free health screening for OFWs
Philippine Consul General Wilfredo DL. Maximo said yesterday that the last quarter “Free Health Screening for OFWs” will be held this Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at the ground floor of Marianas Business Plaza Building. Registration is at 7am and the actual conduct of the activity will start at 8am until noon.
According to Maximo, this quarterly conduct of health mission/wellness program by the Philippine Consulate, Philippine Overseas Labor Office, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is being done in cooperation with the Filipino Volunteer Medical Team and Hardt Eye Clinic.
The medical services include blood pressure, blood sugar, and vision checkups. Further, Maximo is reminding OFWs who are availing of blood sugar level checkup to refrain from taking solid and liquid food from midnight to actual testing.
Last Sept. 7, 2008, during the previous quarter’s health screening activity, there were a total of 366 and 70 OFWs who availed of the blood pressure/sugar and vision check-ups, respectively, and that the average number of OFWs who come for checkup every quarter is at 400.
“We wish that this project would continue so that we can increase the level of awareness on diabetic prevention and control, hypertension prevention, eye/vision pressure correction among the OFWs and among ourselves as public servants,” Maximo said.
Maximo said that through this project, the Philippine Consulate General hopes to reach more and serve even if in a modest way the medical needs of the OFWs by fostering the spirit of volunteerism among the Medical Volunteer Team and Hardt Eye Clinic, in the true spirit of Filipino bayanihan here on Saipan.
