A woman was arrested for allegedly selling a car twice to two different buyers on Tinian.

Julita E. Santos, 55, was arrested for theft by deception. A $25,000 cash bail was initially imposed for her temporary release, but the Superior Court allowed her last week to post a $100 cash bail and $900 in unsecured bond.

Detective Melvin I. Monkeya stated in his report that Anwar Narul had filed a complaint against Santos at the Tinian Department of Public Safety on Oct. 8, 2008.

According to the complainant, on Oct. 1, 2008, Santos went to the Mosque in Subdivision, saying she was selling her Toyota Camry for $5,000.

Narul asked her to drop the price to $3,000 but Santos refused and left.

Later that day, Narul received a call from a friend that Santos was waiting for him as she was willing to sell the car for $3,000.

After test-driving the car, Narul handed over $2,950 in the presence of a witness to Santos, who gave him a $50 discount due to an engine problem.

Inexplicably, the defendant later gave Narul a letter stating that if he could not come up with $2,550 on that day, she would take the car back.

That same day, Santos allegedly took the car using a spare key.

On Nov. 14, 2008, Santos allegedly sold the car again to Huang Shung Corp. for $3,000.
