Daniel is back on top of the 2008 CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-3rd Genesis Cup after slipping past Ezekiel, 96-90, last week at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai.

A depleted crew gave Daniel its fifth win in six games putting the team ahead by a win against second place Isaiah (4-1).

Actually, both teams played with limited manpower, as Daniel and Ezekiel had only six players each. But Daniel survived the game between teams with depleted rosters, as all of its six players scored in double figures with George Barbo leading the way with 26 points.

Barbo drilled in 16 of his total production in the second half to foil Ezekiel’s repeated comeback bids.

Daniel led in the first half, 47-40, but the second half was a seesaw battle, as Ferdinand Galvan tried to make things happen for Ezekiel.

Galvan exploded for 20 points in the second half and finished with 35, but still fell short of giving Ezekiel its first win in six games.

Helping Barbo bring Daniel back to the No. 1 spot were Elmer Esdrelon, who fired 21 points, and Brendon Talania and Greg De Leon, who chipped in 15 apiece. Ricky Dela Paz and Noel Puno also finished in double figures with 11 markers each.

Dela Paz made all his points in the second half, as he and Esdrelon supported Barbo on offense, drilling timely baskets that foiled Ezekiel’s bid for the first win of the season.

Meanwhile, next week will be the final round of the three-round regular season of the league.

Last night’s match between Isaiah and defending champion Jeremiah was the last game in the second round.

After the three-round robin regular season, the top two teams will square off for the title, while the last two will duel for the third place trophy.

Daniel 96 – G. Barbo 26, Esdrelon 21, Talania 15, De Leon 15, Puno 11, Dela Paz 11.

Ezekiel 90 – Galvan 35, Perez 18, Rago 10, Villanueva 9, Valencia 8, Evangelista 6.

Scoring by halves: 47-40, 96-90.
