DPL Rota chief named to licensing board

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has appointed the Department of Public Lands’ lead official on Rota to represent the island to the Board of Professional Licensing.

Teresita Santos, who currently serves as DPL resident director for Rota, was nominated to replace Valerie M. Atalig in the licensing board.

“The lt. governor and I are confident that Ms. Santos is qualified and will be an asset on this important board,” the governor said in a letter to Senate President Pete P. Reyes.

Santos’ appointment requires Senate confirmation. If confirmed, she will serve Atalig’s unexpired term, which ends on Sept. 22, 2010.

The Board of Professional Licensing is responsible for enforcing professional standards in the Commonweatlh. It licenses practitioners of various fields, including architecture, engineering, real estate appraisal, and others. The board has five members. Currently, the sitting members are Francisco Q. Guerrero, Roman S. Demapan, Mitchell K Aaron, all from Saipan, and Gregorio Castro from Tinian.
