‘Protocols for PSS security need to be established’
In light of the recent murder of a security guard at Marianas High School, Education Commissioner Rita Sablan said she is going to look into security regulations for the Public School System.
Sablan said she would learn more about the industry expectation for security companies.
“It’s important [that] not only property is protected but also individuals are protected,” she said.
Protocols need to be established for when PSS contracts with private security companies, she said.
Three MHS students, Eric Rabauliman, 18; Edward Blas, 16; and Randy Anthony Igisomar, 16, were charged this week with murder in the first degree for the killing of Efren L. Ballesteros, a security guard at MHS. Ballesteros was employed with Global Security, which has contracts with several other public schools.
The three suspects allegedly sneaked up on Ballesteros from behind as he was lying on the concrete bench along the hallway and attacked him with a piece of wood, pipe and rebar. The suspects then allegedly stole Ballesteros money and wristwatch before stealing items from classrooms.
