2 women get jail term for ‘ice’
The federal court on Tuesday imposed prison term on two women involved in separate “ice” trafficking cases on Tinian.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson sentenced Xiao Feng Li to 10 months in prison with credit for the time she has already served in federal prison.
Munson sentenced the other defendant, Guihua Luo King, to 12 months in prison with credit for the time she has already served in jail.
After serving their prison term, both Li and King will be placed on three years of supervised release. Li and King, both Chinese, will then be delivered to Immigration for deportation.
The two defendants will be required each to perform 200 hours of community service and to immediately pay $100 in court assessment fee.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric O’Malley moved to impose a 10-month prison term on Li and 12 months for King.
Defense attorneys F. Matthew Smith and Vincent Seman, counsel for Li and King respectively, did not object to the government’s recommendation.
On Aug. 21, 2008, Li, alias Lili, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. On the same day, King, alias Mimi, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute “ice.”
The plea agreement stated that on April 12, 2008, Li was caught in possession of 0.76 grams of “ice.”
With respect to King, the agreement stated that on April 12, 2008, she entered into an agreement with another person to possess with the intent to distribute 1.5 net grams of “ice.”
The U.S. government charged Guihua King and her husband, retired Commonwealth Utilities Corp. employee Oscar M. King, for selling “ice” on Tinian.
But on Oct. 21, 2008, the U.S. government moved to dismiss the case against the 62-year-old Oscar King.
