80 players expected for Rotary Golf
Saipan Rotary Club is expecting as much as 80 players to take part in tomorrow’s 2008 District Governor’s Charity Golf Tournament at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Tournament director Ben Babauta said he is expecting the robust turnout despite the fundraising event held only a day after the Inaugural Refaluwasch Golf Association Memorial Classic.
This year’s Rotary golf tournament will have a double-peoria format with showtime set at 6am and a shotgun start at 7am.
Cash prizes await the top placers in the one-day tournament. First place takes home $500, second $400, third $300, fourth $200, and fifth $100. Consolation prizes will be awarded to the 6th to 10th placers. Eleventh to 15th place will also not go home empty-handed.
Aside from prizes to the Top 15 finishers, the Saipan Rotary Club said a total of $30,000 in cash prizes await lucky hole-in-one winners.
Hole-in-one winners in the 3rd, 13th, and 17th holes on the west course of the Kagman golf facility will each receive $10,000 in cash.
Shell Marianas is sponsoring hole No. 3, which is a par-3, 189-yard hole. The hole-in-one prize on the par-3 158-yard hole No. 13 will come from First Hawaiian Bank, while the third hole-in-one prize on the par-3, 180-yard No. 17 is sponsored by AON Insurance.
A special prize also awaits the winner of the closest to the pin contest on the par-3, 160-yard hole No. 7.
The awards banquet for the 2008 District Governor’s Charity Golf Tournament will be held at the “The Range” with organizers giving raffle prizes to participants.
Part of the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Kagman Community Children’s Park.
Golfers wishing to compete in tomorrow’s tournament must pay the $100 entrance fee. Entry forms should be returned to Babauta before the start of the tournament.
