Every year, each public school recognizes its most diligent employees. The three categories in which employees are acknowledged are Teacher of the Year, Teacher Aide of the Year and Support Staff of the Year.

This year, Highly Qualified first grade teacher Elena Enriquez was voted Kagman Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year.

When asked how she felt about being chosen as Teacher of the Year by her colleagues, Enriquez said, “I was of course surprised, excited and somewhat overwhelmed. I was happy! I love teaching kids and seeing them grow as individuals.”

One advice she wishes to give students is “for them to keep working hard to become better students and be better citizens.”

Enriquez has taught at Kagman Elementary since the school opened eight years ago.

Rose Sablan, who has been working under the Special Education Program for the past six years, was voted KagES Teacher Aide of the Year.

“I was surprised! I didn’t believe it! …I was probably chosen because I work so hard, my attendance is good, and I work well with the students.”

She says she enjoys working with students with disabilities “because it’s a learning opportunity. I have a niece with a disability and working with these students helps me better interact with her. At the end of the day, I go home with pride, knowing I helped students learn something new.”

KagES Support Staff of the Year is Eladia Muna.

Muna claims she felt “nervous and shy” when she found out her colleagues had voted her Support Staff of the Year. “I wasn’t sure if it was really me!”

From janitorial services to maintenance repairs, she is one of the school’s most valuable employees, who devotes so much time and energy into getting the job done.

Muna is a supportive, humble individual who cares very much for each student’s safety and well-being.
