The Division of Environment Quality has raised the red flag on the beach adjacent to the Mobil storm drain on Rota after samples collected showed excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria. DEQ advises the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of this location for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified.

In a statement, DEQ said that water samples collected from this site were found to contain concentrations of enterococci that exceed the CNMI Marine Water Quality Standards.

DEQ analyzed samples of marine recreational and storm drainage water taken from 12 locations on Rota this week. DEQ welcomes all inquires as to quality of the beach water. The public is encouraged to contact DEQ at 664-8500 with any questions concerning this matter. (DEQ)
