Northern Marianas Athletic will be hosting the second leg of the 2008 Schools Cross Country Series tomorrow at the Airport Field.

NMA official Elias Rangamar said registration will start at 3pm, while races will begin at 4pm.

There will be races in five divisions, namely the 7-and-under, 9-and-under, 11-and-under, 14-and-under, and 18-and-under age groups.

Runners in the 7-and-under, 9-and-under, and 11-and-under divisions will take the shorter 1,500m course, while participants in the 14-and-under and 18-and-under will run the 5,000m course.

This weekend’s races will be the last warm-up for the All Schools championship set, which is set for Nov. 15, also at the Airport Field.

In the championship, NMA will be giving away medals to the Top 3 finishers in individual races and trophies to the top three schools.

A school will qualify in the team awards if it fields at least five runners in the races. Points will be awarded to each runner to determine the rankings of schools. The first finisher will get a point, two for second, three for third, four for fourth, five for fifth, and so on. The school with the lowest points wins the division. In case of a tie, the school with a sixth finisher wins the tiebreak.

The MHS Dolphins are the defending champion in the 18-and-under division, while Tinian Elementary School ruled the 11-and-under and 9-and-under age groups in last year’s championships

Participants in the 7-and-under, 9-and-under, and 11-and-under age group will race first and will be followed by runners in the 14-and-under and 18-and-under divisions.
