Babies on Saipan
In reference to the news article “Web sites promote NMI as a place to have babies,” I have witnessed at least six pregnant Korean women that live right next door to my home in Dandan. Yes, they moved in looking like watermelons on two legs, no husband, just caretakers, maid service, and even escort to the hospital for mama checks. Once they give birth two to three days later, they fly away and in less than a month another will pop in and will go through the same process. My guess is once they obtain their baby’s birth certificate, they’ll apply for the baby’s passport through the U.S. Embassy in their country.
I have shared my findings to a couple of elected officials and even to a former staff of the Division of Labor and Immigration and she had reported it to the said department and no action was taken. Just recently I heard that this type of practice (having babies in the CNMI) is now being moved from house to house and or apartment so they will avoid suspicious landlords or apartment managers. But then again, I’m sure some landlords are aware but do nothing due to the income for their pockets. If DOLI wants to know one of these people who are practicing this type of activities, please call me and I will point straight to their location. I would like to urge all of our people to please do something about it if you suspect this type of practice. We need to clean up our act, and stop this people from profiting on our islands.
