Gregorio “Kilili” C. Sablan is leading his closest rival, Pete A. Tenorio, by 360 votes in the preliminary results of the Nov. 4 election to choose the CNMI’s first ever delegate to the U.S. Congress.
Sablan, the former executive director of the Election Commission, is leading the nine-man race with a total of 2,279 votes, followed by Tenorio, the incumbent Washington representative, who garnered a total of 1,919 votes.
In third spot is TV talk show host John Oliver Gonzales, who has 1,740 votes. Former judge Juan T. Lizama is in fourth spot, with 1,611 votes.
Rounding out the field are Sen. Luis Crisostimo, in fifth place with 879 votes; former senator David Cing, sixth, 270 votes; Saipan municipal councilor Felipe Atalig, seventh, 233; businessman Chong Won, eighth, 219; and high school teacher John Davis, ninth, 139.
These rankings could still change as there are still a little under 1,000 absentee votes that will be counted on Nov. 18.
Last night’s counting was held at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, starting at 12:15am, and ended seven hours later at 7:15am.
