Ex-convict gets 19-day prison term for stealing from chapel
The Superior Court has imposed a 19-day prison term on an ex-convict who was one of two persons who stole some items from a chapel in Garapan.
Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo sentenced Hilario Teigita Angui to two years in prison, all suspended except for 19 days.
Following a plea agreement, Govendo gave the 25-year-old Angui credit for the time he has already served in jail.
Govendo placed the defendant on unsupervised probation and ordered him to pay a $100 fine, $25 court assessment fee, plus a probation fee.
The judge said Angui is liable for any restitution owed to Victory Chapel.
Angui was required to write a letter of apology to the victim and perform 100 hours of community service.
Angui agreed to cooperate with the prosecution of the case and testify against his co-defendant, Julian Sablan.
The Attorney General’s Office charged Angui with burglary and theft. He entered a plea agreement with the government and pleaded guilty to theft.
According to the plea agreement, on Oct. 12, 2007, Angui conspired with one or more persons to steal from Victory Chapel three DVD players and assorted DVD movies.
In February 2008, the Superior Court sentenced Angui to 120 days for stealing a laptop computer from the Commonwealth Health Center in September 2007.
