The Military and Veterans Affairs Office said the CNMI government would be extending its appreciation to those who have served freedom’s cause during the commemoration of Veterans’ Day on Nov.11.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial will lead the ceremonies at the Court of Honor inside the American Memorial Park.

The activities will start at 11am with Maj. Stephen D. Tom, chief of staff for the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii, as the keynote speaker.

Ruth Coleman, VMA executive director, said there are about 1,400 veterans in the CNMI.

VMA said the occasion would be an appropriate time for the government to salute members of the Armed Forces who are confronting “our adversaries abroad.”

“We honor the men and women who left America’s shores but did not live to be thanked as veterans,” a statement from the VMA said yesterday.

VMA is calling all veterans, active and reserve military members, their families, family members of those departed veterans, the local Marine Scouts and the public to join the celebration.

Before the Nov. 11 special day, Fitial will be signing the Veterans Week Proclamation at the Governor Office’s conference room tomorrow, Nov. 5.

The signing will be at 10am, to be attended by the veterans and their family members.

In related development, Coleman said Congress has just adopted a resolution that seeks to create a Veterans Affairs Clinic and VA benefits office in the CNMI.

The Resolution would be sent to the U.S. VA office in Honolulu headed by Dr. James Hastings, VA Director of Health. (Nazario Rodriguez)
