Lynn Tenorio’s contract with DPH not renewed
Lynn Tenorio is no longer deputy secretary for Public Health, after her contract was not renewed.
Tenorio’s contract was not renewed Oct. 16. Her last day in the position was Oct. 31.
“I respect the Administration’s position and authority regarding the personnel it may need to carry out its agenda with DPH,” she said. “I am very appreciative of the opportunity to have been involved in the programs at the Division of Public Health and my work with the dedicated staff at the department.”
Joseph Kevin Villagomez, Secretary of Public Health, said he did not know why Tenorio’s contract was not renewed.
During the governor’s weekly cabinet meeting yesterday, Villagomez said he told Fitial that John Tagabuel would be the acting Deputy Secretary, replacing Tenorio. Tagabuel was manager of the Bureau of Environmental Health.
“We’ll do the work we’re supposed to do,” Villagomez said.
He said Tenorio did a good job as deputy secretary for Public Health.
“She ran professional and great programs,” he said. “She ran it very well.”
Charles Reyes, press secretary for the Governor’s Office, said the administration does not discuss employee contracts.
“Generally we don’t comment on personnel issues,” he said.
There is no expectation for employment for government employees, he said.
Tenorio has been with DPH since 2006. Before that she was the coordinator of the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program.
During her time as Deputy Secretary, she helped double federal funding for the department from $3 to $4 million to more than $6 million. Under Tenorio’s leadership, two cancer programs and the Women’s, Infants and Children’s program were created.
“[The WIC program] is an ongoing process because it’s multifaceted,” she said.
