Man allegedly beats up his girlfriend over wrong DVD
An intoxicated man allegedly beat up his girlfriend Saturday after she tried to stop him from breaking their television set with a hammer.
Bernardo Batoto Pineda, 48, of Central Garapan, was apprehended for assault and battery. A $1,000 cash bail was imposed for his temporary liberty.
Pineda was set for a bail hearing yesterday afternoon before Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman.
The victim suffered a bump on the head and a half-inch cut on the left wrist.
Detective Simon T. Manacop stated in his report that Pineda and some friends had been drinking since morning of Saturday. At 3:30pm that day, Pineda came home and got mad after learning that a DVD disc he had purchased from a store was the wrong one.
The defendant broke the DVD disc into pieces using a hammer. Not satisfied, he was about to hit their TV set with the hammer but the girlfriend blocked him.
Pineda allegedly pushed the girlfriend on the chest, causing her head to hit the TV shelf. He allegedly shoved her again to the side then kicked her in the stomach when she tried to get up.
When the victim noticed her left hand was bleeding, she ran to a friend’s room and asked the friend to text her cousin to inform her as to what had just happened.
The cousin then called the police. When the police later arrived at the apartment, Pineda was found asleep in the room. He was arrested.
