Never too late!
Sometimes we go through our busy day not realizing that an event transpired. At times these events strike so close to home and yet we forget to say the simple phrase, “thank you and si yu’us ma’ase.” I am a family member of the late Joaquin Mesngon Ogo Sr., also known as “Tan Kindo,” who was given tribute by our present leadership in the legislative and executive branches respectively through the enactment of Public Law 16-16 on Sept. 9, 2008. This act named the Sinapalo baseball field after our beloved grandfather.
This really means a lot to us, the family, being that we can vividly remember the tremendous time and sacrifice he made for our community of Rota. Through his efforts we were given the opportunity to enjoy a family oriented sport that ultimately sparked camaraderie throughout the various families. I fondly remember “Ta” making his gestures as an umpire and having the crowd break out in laughter as a result of his jolly spirit. He made the events entertaining and enjoyable. We had such a great time that it would bring about the spirit of sportsmanship, where winning was not the focal point of the game. His untiring service as a volunteer gave us the opportunity to gather as a community.
Our small community needs more people like him. No matter what sport or activity, it seems that volunteerism is the root of success. As a community, only through the backs of unselfish individuals can we continue to prosper. For this, we the family extend our deepest appreciation to the various individuals that forever memorialized his accomplishments.
