The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has advised children and adults not to throw their pairs of shoes at electric lines on Saipan.

Pair of sneakers have been observed hanging on electric lines in many areas on the island.

According to acting CUC spokesperson Gary Camacho it is a safety issue.

“We have seen some shoes or any other type of foreign objects hanging on the line on the area lines. And we do make an effort to get those down—of course that is a safety issue,” Camach said.

The CUC spokesperson asked the people if they see hanging shoes to call their Trouble Desk so the crew could address the problem as quickly as possible and it doesn’t affect the power system.

“Anything up there could possibly affect the system in its supply of power. It is dangerous not only that it is something doesn’t belong up there. For safety purposes, try to keep any foreign objects form the area lines,” Camacho said.

He said the shoes are eyesores to the tourists, however, CUC’s bigger concern is the safety for the people in the general area and the efficiency of the power supply.

“These children may not realize the danger that they might be putting in to the area,” Camacho added.
