Daniel prevailed in its early rematch with defending champion Jeremiah, cruising to a 94-77 victory in the 3rd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup Friday night at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai.

Daniel lost to Jeremiah in last season’s title match, 84-105.

In its first meeting with Jeremiah since last year’s finals, Daniel had several returning players from last season’s roster, while the defending champion paraded an almost new lineup.

Familiarity with each other helped Daniel nail an easy victory in its debut game this season.

Stalwarts Elmer Esdrelon and Darwin Barbo paced Daniel firing 24 and 22 points, respectively.

Esdrelon took care of business from outside for Daniel, drilling four triples and several long jumpers, while Barbo was a force in the paint, making most of his shots in the shaded lane.

Three other Daniel players scored in double figures with George Barbo adding 14, Sonny Ranola hitting 12 and Brendo Talania chipping in 10.

Wowee Abuel, one of the several new players in the league, tallied 19 points in his debut with Jeremiah. Glen Mercurio had 11 points, while Amor Casabuena contributed 10, but was held to four points in the second half.

Daniel took a 54-44 halftime lead as Darwin and George Barbo, and Esdrelon found their marks early.

Darwin had 15 first-half points, Esdrelon nailed 13, and George made 10.

Esdrelon continued his hot shooting in the second half, adding 11 points, while Ranola, who was held to two points in the first half, redeemed himself in the second, hitting 10 points.

Abuel and Mercurio tried to bring Jeremiah back into the game in the second half, combining for 18 points, but these were not enough, as they drew limited help from their teammates, while Daniel continued to have a balanced offense.
