KOD semis set Sunday at Dandan field
The semifinal games of the Budweiser King of the Diamonds featuring the Top 4 teams after four qualifying tournaments will be played this Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Dandan Ballfield.
Shell Marianas, winner of the first two qualifying rounds, will meet the winner of the wildcard game for the first semifinal game starting at 10am.
Before that, the wildcard game was being played as of presstime last night between Total Chaos and SUFA.
The other semifinal game on Sunday will be between Natibu and Saipal. This game will start at 11am.
Natibu placed second behind Shell Marianas in the second qualifying round to earn outright entry into the Final Four.
Saipal, on the other hand, became the only team to break the juggernaut of Shell Marianas, beating them twice in the elimination round and championship game to top the third qualifying tournament last Sept. 13-14 at the Capital Hill Ballfield.
The winner of the two semifinal matches will vie for the lone ticket to the Budweiser Tournament of Champions to be hosted by Palau next month.
Shell Marianas, then known as No Ka Oi, owns the titles of the tournament the past three years, in Palau in 2005, Saipan in 2006 and Guam in 2007.
The game is open to all legal Saipan residents, 18 or older, except the employees of Marpac Inc.
A team can have maximum of 15 players to include two or more females on the roster plus a manager and a coach.
Homeruns will be called an automatic out.
Budweiser initiated this tournament to bring all the best teams in Micronesia.
The trophy will revolve around the region but will be kept for good if a team wins it three times in a row.
That was why No Ka Oi kept the first revolving trophy and a new one will be up for grabs when the tournament shifts back to Palau.
