Evenflow starts title defense in Rocball
Evenflow will begin its title defense in the 2008-2009 World Organized Rocball Community League tomorrow when it collides with the Ghasias Brothers at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Evenflow won its best-of-five title series with No-Use, coming back from a 0-2 deficit.
The Ghasias Brothers are also making a comeback in the Rocball league after missing in action in the past four years.
Evenflow and the Ghasias Brothers will duel in the first game of the season at 1pm. Five more matches are set for the opening day of the league.
In the second game at 2pm, the Naturals will take on Uraiwak. The third game at 3pm will have the Okies challenging No-Mercy, while the Soul Rebels will face Section A. The last two games of the day will feature the FSM Rebels meeting the Fanians at 5pm, and the Prims colliding with the Islanders at 6pm.
Only four teams—Evenflow, Naturals, Islands, and No-Mercy—from last year’s league are returning this season.
Last year, the league drew 18 teams and 140 players. The list include No-Use, Jammers, Malat, NG Force, Chuukese Warriors, Sonics, 670, By Luck, Yamat, Team Seven, Dota All-Stars, Try-Out, and Monota.
From 18 teams, the league was down to 10 eliminating squads which absorbed three losses in the preliminaries. From 10, four teams were left standing to battle for the two finals ticket.
No-Use swept No-Mercy in the best-of-three semis series to take the first finals berth, while Evenflow secured the last finals slot after beating Try-Out, 2-1
This season, players from the defunct 14 squads either joined new teams or formed their own squads, but the league will basically have a mixed of old and new players.
James Feger is coordinating the league and will be officiating the games with volunteer umpires.
Feger is the creator of the Rocball, which is an indigenous sport on the island.
Rocball combines the rules of volleyball and soccer. It is played in a slightly modified standard volleyball court with an overhead net bisecting team courts and a 6- x 12-foot soccer type goal located 10 feet behind each court. The sport uses a scoring system where a team could win a game by total amount of points scored using a set system of play.
