GCA starts Missions Convention activities
Students, parents and teachers of Grace Christian Academy paraded around the campus yesterday in their colorful costumes to start a weeklong activity in connection with its 2008 Missions Convention.
The school has invited special guest speakers, husband and wife Jerry and Karen Jacob, who are based in Fiji and are Area Directors of the Assemblies of God World Missions for the Pacific Oceania Region.
Today’s activities include Grades 9 and 6 class presentations and Missions Convention Service.
On Wednesday, Grades 10 and 7 will also have their class presentations, while entries for essay and poster contests will be due.
The criteria for judging posters and essays will also be distributed.
On Thursday, it would be the turn of students in Grades 11 and 8 (Barnabas section) to do their presentations; on Friday, the Grades 12 and 8 (Paul section) will have their turn.
Winners of the essay and poster contests and best classroom setup will be announced on Friday morning.
In the evening, there will be a Missions Convention Service at the church with the students in their cultural attire.
In a statement, Senior Pastor Reverend Ray Kinsella said GCA is blessed to have the Jacobs as guest speakers for the Missions month.
He said the Jacobs are the most down-to-earth and caring people, having been spent 20 years serving the Pacific Islands such as Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Guam.
Kinsella said the Missions’ theme this year focuses on the fact “that there are no exceptions for love of God.”
“Jerry and Karen exemplify that truth everyday as they travel to our remote islands, many of which are known to no one but God and he loves everyone there,” Kinsella said.
The Jacobs said they would be “challenging the congregation with the need to reach the lost.”
“What needs to happen to each of us to reach the lost? What makes the church a soul winning church?” they said.
The Jacobs also coordinate the efforts of HealthCare Ministries, Convoy of Hope and Asia’s Little Ones in Pacific Oceania.
Their next stop will be Palau and Papua New Guinea.
