Delegate forum tonight, all 9 candidates present
The nine candidates running to serve as the CNMI’s first congressional delegate have all confirmed they will attend a forum hosted by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce tonight, an event that will mark the first time every one of them has stood shoulder to shoulder on one stage.
At the first candidate forum of the election, held in Kagman, Saipan Municipal Councilman Felipe Atalig and Sen. Luis Crisostimo were both absent. Later, at a second forum, Crisostimo was missing yet again while his other eight competitors answered questions.
Tonight’s forum will have a unique format. Members of the chamber, students at Northern Marianas College and members of the chamber’s board have submitted questions they want they candidates to answer. Each question will be addressed to one candidate.
In a statement, the chamber’s executive director, Kyle Calabrese, said organizers expect five rounds of questions, followed with 5-minute statements by each of the candidates.
It will be moderated by Chamber member Jon Anderson of Bridge Capital.
The forum will take place at the Fiesta Resort’s Hibiscus Hall at 6:30pm. Tickets for adults are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Students (with ID) may purchase tickets for $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
