2 allegedly drunk men follow car, beat up driver
A man suffered serious injuries when two intoxicated men allegedly followed his car from San Vicente and ganged up on him when he reached his home in Chalan Kanoa Thursday midnight.
Police said the victim, Emmanuel Pamintuan, sustained a cut on the nose, bruises in the face, and swelling on the forehead and right temple.
Responding police officers arrested one suspect, Martino M. Omelau.
Omelau was taken to the Superior Court yesterday morning for a bail hearing. Associate Judge Perry B. Inos imposed a $300 cash bail and $2,700 unsecured bond for the temporary release of the defendant.
Preliminary hearing was set for Oct. 10 and the arraignment for Oct. 20.
Detective Joaquin Deleon Guerrero stated in his report that on Thursday at 12:09am a complaint of a disturbance along Texas Road in Chalan Kanoa was reported to the Department of Public Safety.
A responding police officer’s investigation showed that Pamintuan had just gotten home when another car with license plate ACH-645 pulled up into his driveway. Two men got out from the car and told Pamintuan to leave.
The victim told the two that he was on his property and that they should be the ones to leave.
One of the two suspects pulled out a cell phone and dialed a number, claiming it was 911.
Unsure whether it was indeed 911, Pamintuan spoke on the phone and reported that there were two men on his property and were telling him to leave.
The victim said he doesn’t remember what happened next, but that he was hit on the head and face by the two suspects.
Another responding police officer later stopped Omelau in Chalan Kanoa village and brought him to Pamintuan.
The victim identified Omelau as one of the two men who beat him up. The suspect was placed under arrest.
Deleon Guerrero said that in his interview with Omelau, the suspect admitted to being involved in the incident.
Deleon Guerrero said Omelau claimed that he and his brother Roland Martin were drinking beer at his (Omelau) house in San Vicente prior to the incident.
Omelau said he saw a car parked on the road directly across his house and that nobody got down.
When he and Martin got on their vehicle to go to the store, Omelau said the car across the street left. He said they followed the car all the way to Chalan Kanoa where it stopped at a house.
Omelau said he dialed 911 and gave the phone to the driver [Pamintuan].
Omelau claimed that the driver hit him in the face, resulting in the fight.
Detective Deleon Guerrero said Omelau admitted that he repeatedly kicked and punched Pamintuan in the head and body.
