5 teams to vie for weekend’s KOD wildcard
Five teams will vie for the wildcard entry in the 2008 Budweiser King and Queen of the Diamonds Modified Co-ed Slow-pitch Softball Tournament at the Capital Hill Ballfield this weekend, Oct. 4-5.
After three qualifying rounds, three teams—Shell Marianas, Natibu, and Sai-Pal—have already reserved spots in the Final Four that will compete for the lone ticket to represent CNMI in the Tournament of Champions to be hosted again by Palau next month.
Shell Marianas topped the first two qualifying rounds to stay in the No. 1 position in the Final Four, to be played on Oct. 10-11.
Natibu earned the No. 2 spot by placing second in the second qualifying round.
Sai-Pal took the No. 3 spot by beating Shell Marianas in the third qualifying round last Sept. 13-14.
The five teams that will play for the No. 4 spot are Sai-Pal, Total Chaos, On Da Rox, SUFA, Natibu, and Auel Auel.
The rankings were based on their performances in the first three qualifying rounds.
Sai-Pal was second in the first round, thus earning the first slot while Total Chaos was third to occupy the second position.
On the Rox just managed a fifth place finish in the second round but enough to take the third slot while SUFA placed sixth for fourth.
Natibu will be in the fifth slot for the wildcard qualifying round after placing third in the third qualifying round, while Auel Auel placed fourth and will be on the sixth spot this weekend.
Shell Marianas, then carrying the name No Ka Oi, thrice represented the CNMI and won all three Tournament of Champions in 2005 in Palau, 2006 on Saipan, and 2007 in Guam.
The game is open to all legal Saipan residents, 18 or older, except the employees of Marpac Inc.
A team will have maximum of 15 players to include two or more females on the roster plus a manager and a coach. Homeruns will be called an automatic out.
