A man who was caught on a surveillance camera stealing an air-conditioner unit’s condenser from a poker arcade in Chalan Kanoa pleaded guilty yesterday.

Dennis J. Ngeskebei, 39, pleaded guilty to theft.

Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman sentenced Ngeskebei to one year in prison, all suspended except for five days.

Wiseman ordered the defendant to start serving the prison term at the Department of Corrections on Oct. 17, 2008, at 6pm.

The judge placed the defendant on probation and required him to pay $200 to Nova Fun & Games, a $50 fine, and $25 court assessment fee plus probation fee.

Ngeskebei was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to Nova Fun.

According to the plea agreement, on March 9, 2007, the defendant stole an air-conditioning condenser belonging to Nova Fun & Games.

Police said the owner of Nova Fun reported to police on March 9, 2007, that two men stole their air-conditioner unit’s condenser from outside the arcade.

The owner showed the police footage of their surveillance camera in which two men were shown stealing the air-conditioner’s condenser.

The footage led to the arrest of Ngeskebei and Raymond I. Duenas.

Police said the two admitted stealing the item and selling it to Triple Star Recycling Center in As Perdido for $14. They then split the money.
