14 Guam soldiers deploy to Afghanistan

[B]GUAM[/B]—Members of the Guam Army National Guard are scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan today, Oct. 1, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 14 soldiers will be augmenting the 33rd Brigade Combat Team from North Carolina for approximately 18 months. They will also be participating in Mobilization Station training at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina before heading to Afghanistan.

A send-off ceremony was scheduled to take place yesterday at 2pm at the Guam National Guard’s 105th Troop Command Bldg., Guam Army Guard’s Barrigada Complex.

Five members of the group have deployed previously to Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. The team will be providing a variety of duties to include the Task Force Engineer commander, personnel support, logistics support, medical support and security forces.

Today, there are over 200 Army Guard soldiers deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving the nation abroad in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Philippines. ([I]PR)
