Hypocrisy at its worst

Kudos to Rep. Tina Sablan for shedding light on the taxpayers’ burden of paying the power bills for the Governor and Lt. Governor, not to mention the millions of dollars paid by the taxpayers to support all the other perks enjoyed by the governmental elite. Regardless of CNMI law allowing for these perks, laws can be changed to suit the times. The government keeps claiming that they are broke. Yet, still they enjoy unfettered perks in this time of austerity. This is hypocrisy at its worst.
Let the elite (who undoubtedly have significantly more funds than 99 percent of the hardworking taxpayers) decline the extravagant perks and place that money into education, health, and the rotting infrastructure. The government is not broke…the people are. And speaking of doing right for the CNMI, many ask why the Governor is fighting so hard against any federalization, in the face of such tremendous opposition. Has there been any legitimate reason given for suing the U.S. (other than wasting taxpayers money)? It begs the question of what really is going on. Many folks are whispering the obvious: if the Feds come in they would undoubtedly go through the books. And what would they find? Is there something the Governor and his people are trying to hide? The public outcry against this administration is so loud that it’s a wonder he has not yet been impeached. Or fled the island. Certainly, it becomes obvious that much is going on behind closed doors and none of it for the benefit of the citizens. I welcome the Feds to come in and lay bare the political corruption and lack of an honest and transparent government. Let’s see who are the heroes of the CNMI and who are the corrupt officials who have forsook the hardworking citizens for their own greed and dishonesty.
