Alien workers should also be aware of the emergency preparedness program in the CNMI as disaster can strike any time and at anybody, according to Emergency Management Office chief planner Theodore Untalan.

Untalan told Saipan Tribune that alien workers live in the CNMI and that the disaster preparedness program is everybody’s business.

“My program is for everybody. It’s everybody’s concern,” the chief planner said.

On Sunday, over 50 alien workers—mostly Filipinos—participated in EMO’s Multi-Cultural Day at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe as part of the Disaster Preparedness Month activities.

“It is just asking the community to come here. We made some presentations on epidemic flu, the police and fire did presentations on safety and preparedness. And we had our communication consultant talking about communication. We had the American Red Cross, and we also did our own presentation,” Untalan said, referring to Sunday’s presentation.

“The message is this: Be prepared, get a kit, be informed and make a plan,” he said.

Untalan expressed appreciation to Philippine Consul General Wilfredo Maximo who cooperated with the program and brought in some members of the Filipino community.

The Multi-Cultural Day was one of the many activities prepared by the Disaster Preparedness Month Committee.

EMO earlier conducted a business preparedness workshop at the Multi-Purpose Center.
