Stop manipulating voters

As the delegate race draws closer to finality, I would like to remind voters to please vote for the highest qualified candidate regardless of party affiliation or family connection. I am saying this after attending a rosary and hearing the same old politics play out by members of one clan reminding us that we have to vote for a certain candidate because he was family.

I actually found that type of politics outdated and an insult to the voters of the CNMI. I cannot find it in my conscience to do so, knowing that there are serious problems on our island and many people are enduring hardships as a result of ineffective leadership.

What’s more troubling is the fact that our biggest challenge and test has yet to come and will soon come before us once the federalization and the next minimum wage hike occurs. With all the problems our island faces, it’s surprising that we have not learned anything. Instead we have ineffective leadership from our Washington Representative, to all members of the House and Senate.

Everyone wants change and vows to elect “highly” qualified candidates but every election it’s the same old politics, same old story, and same old disappointments we are faced with. We the voters are manipulated and persuaded by the dominating Republican Party or by prominent family members who have both ruled and contributed to the downfall of our island.

The quality of representation to U.S. Congress is critical as it is no secret that most members of the House and Senate are well-educated, possessing college degrees. What is most critical to CNMI voters to know is that over 180 members of the U.S. Congress and 57 members of the Senate are lawyers. This election if held in the United States would be easily decided but unfortunately Saipan politics is dominated by our Republican party.

Enough is enough with manipulating voters. Wake up CNMI! Vote for responsible leadership and a person who will not shame us or the CNMI!
