Award-winning columnist to visit Saipan next month
As part of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities for October 2008, the Family Violence Task Force is sponsoring several special presentations on Saipan by renowned columnist Renee Mitchell.
Mitchell will be on island during the week of Oct. 5-9, 2008, in conjunction with the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities, which has adopted the theme “Empowering the Community for Change.”
While Mitchell is in the Commonwealth she will be speaking with different community groups to inspire and empower us all to help victims of domestic violence in our community.
Mitchell is an award-winning columnist for The Oregonian, Oregon’s leading newspaper. In 2005, she was nominated for the Pultizer Prize for commentary. Mitchell uses storytelling, performing poetry, and her theatrical expertise to empower, humor, entertain, inform, inspire, and motivate her audience. She has shared the stage with feminist author Bell Hooks, actor Danny Glover, jazz pianist Tom Grant, and hip-hop duo Siren’s Echo. www.reneemitchellspeaks.com
