8 teams joining fast-pitch softball league
THE CNMI Softball Association is getting ready for the opening of the 2008 Island-wide Men’s Fast-pitch Softball League later this month.
CNMISA president Manny Tenorio said they are hoping to kick off the league at the end of this month if the condition of the power crisis on Saipan continues to improve.
Games in the fast-pitch softball league are played at nighttime at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field.
Tenorio said so far eight teams had already signified their interests to join the 2008 season of the annual fast-pitch softball league.
Tenorio added they might also hold a competition in the women’s division if enough teams register for the league.
Managers or team representatives are asked to attend a meeting on Sept. 18 at 6pm at Gilbert C. Ada Gym’s conference room to discuss league rules, game schedules, and entrance fee.
Tenorio said they are looking at holding games twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday, with two matches in each playing night.
This year’s defending champions are the D-9ers, who swept the Tanapag Falcons in last season’s best-of-three title series.
The D-9ers clobbered the Falcons in Game 1, 13-2, and foiled the latter’s bid to extend the series by cruising to a 15-3 triumph in Game 2.
Last year’s championship was the D-9ers seventh straight and they did it without losing a single game in the 2007 season.
The D-9ers swept the double-round robin regular season and defeated the Islanders, 12-1, in the semifinals to advance to the title series against the Falcons.
Tanapag and the Islanders battled for the last finals ticket with the former escaping with a 10-8 victory to earn a title match against the D-9ers.
