Shell Marianas showed its complete dominance over PTI, cruising to a 9-1 win, even as three other teams advanced to the next round of the winners’ bracket during the third qualifying round for the 2008 Budweiser King and Queen of the Diamonds Modified Co-ed Slowpitch Softball Tournament yesterday at the Capitol Hill Ball Field.

Left fielder Roy Celis sparked his team’s scoring binge right at top of the first inning followed by first baseman JJ Laniyo and right fielder JR Suel in the second and third baseman Manny Sablan in the third.

Celis and Jerry Ayuyu also reached home plate after Laniyo, Suel, and Dave Camacho scored in successions in the 6th inning for Shell Marianas, the three-time winner of the Tournament of Champions.

PTI’s lone run came at the bottom of the sixth but did not affect much Shell Marianas’ bid to top anew the third qualifying round after ruling the first and second rounds earlier this year.

The victory put Shell Marianas in a second-round match against Natibu. The game was played yesterday afternoon and the results were unavailable at press time.

Natibu also won its first match, overpowering, On Da Rox, 11-3, to advance to the second round.

The winner between Shell Marianas and Natibu will earn the right to face the winner of the encounter between Saipal and Awel Awel at the resumption of play today.

Saipal scored yesterday’s most lopsided win against Redemption, 13-0, while Awel Awel outshone Total Chaos, 13-6.

Total Chaos recovered when it vented its ire on Redemption, 15-5, to remain in the hunt for an outright ticket for the third slot in the Final Four.

With the win, Total Chaos will meet the loser of the Shell Marianas vs. Natibu in the second game at 10 a.m. today.

Redemption was the first team to be eliminated in the qualifier after its defeat to Total Chaos.
