Defending champion Seventh Day Adventist quickly recovered from its first game jitters by winning over Saipan International School Blue in the junior varsity division of the 2008 Coalition of Private Schools Volleyball League at home turf Thursday.

The Knights were pushed to a grueling three-set battle before prevailing with a 25-20, 30-28, 15-13 count over the relentless Blue Geckos.

With the win, the Knights are now 1-1 following their opening day loss to Whispering Palms last Tuesday.

“We have good communication this time,” thus said coach Angie Perez.

She said they have been practicing a lot in preparation for this season.

With good players in the fold, team effort she said will be a key factor for retaining the junior varsity crown.

For SDA’s high school team, which is coached by Nicole French, the Knights want to rebound next week after losing their first assignment to SIS-Blue also Thursday.

The Blue Geckos varsity team easily went home with a 25-8, 25-18 victory at the expense of the error-prone SDA varsity.

SDA will host Calvary Christian School on Sept. 16 in both high school and middle school divisions.

SIS Blue will face sister team SIS-Green also on Sept. 16.

Results in the other games were unavailable as of press time.

The rained out games between Marianas Baptist Academy and defending champion Grace Christian Academy in the high school division was played yesterday at the MBA court starting at 3:30pm.

GCA was scheduled against SIS-Green yesterday while MBA was set against CCA.

The other games played yesterday were WPS vs. MCS and CCA vs. SCS.
