Oscar Porras Jr., the alleged driver of a getaway vehicle used to rob a female Japanese tourist, was served Friday afternoon with an arrest warrant in connection with the robbery.

Police served the arrest warrant on the 33-year-old Porras at the Department of Corrections. The warrant was issued by Superior Court associate judge David Wiseman.

Saipan Tribune learned that Porras failed to post the $100 cash bail after being arrested last week for allegedly stealing a case of beer from Grand Market in Lower Navy Hill.

Porras was taken to court yesterday afternoon for a hearing in the Garapan case on charges of robbery, theft, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.

Wiseman imposed a $50,000 cash bail on Porras.

Porras’ cousin, Gustavo Ybanez Jr., was first arrested last week after a witness tagged him as the man who grabbed the bag from a tourist along Beach Road, Garapan, on Nov. 16. In that incident, the female victim was dragged several meters by the car after she tried to stop the robbery by holding on to the car’s window.

Police said Ybanez confessed to detectives that it was Porras who drove their getaway vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder.
