The Field Operations Shop of the Saipan Mayor’s Office in Lower Base was burglarized again yesterday and about 60 gallons of diesel were stolen from two tractors.

Field Operations Shop director Joe Tenorio said it was the second time in three weeks that burglars broke into their compound and stole gallons of diesel from heavy equipment.

Tenorio said they discovered yesterday’s burglary between 8am and 9am when they reported to work and learned that the tanks of a military tractor and Diamond Rio tractor have been drained of fuel.

He said he immediately instructed the staff to check the compound’s fence.

They discovered that wires in a portion of the fence located behind a container in the backside of the shop had been cut.

Two weeks ago, a burglar or burglars also cut a portion of the fence and stole over 115 gallons of diesel by draining the tanks of five heavy equipments, Tenorio said.

The director said he would talk with Mayor Juan B. Tudela to provide either at least one staff or hire a security guard to watch the shop during nighttime or weekends.

He, however, realized that there is no funding available to provide security at the shop.

For the meantime, Tenorio said, they will just regularly check the compound, especially during weekends.

“That’s the only way now to save our fuel and other tools,” he said.
