PCA softball registration on
Registration for the 2008 SaipanCell/Palau Community Association Softball Tournament is ongoing with interested teams having until only next week to make it to the two-weekend event.
Entrance fee is $400 and will be due, along with a copy of rosters and waiver forms, on Sept. 12 at 5pm.
PCA president Rufino Aguon said they will be accepting a maximum of 12 teams for the tournament, which will be held on Sept 20 to 21, and Sept. 27 to 28 at the Dandan Elementary School Ballfield.
Team representatives are required to attend a meeting on Sept. 12 for the drawing of schedule of games.
This year’s PCA softball tilt will offer $1,000 to the champion team, which will take home a perpetual wood-carved trophy.
The softball tournament is a fundraiser for PCA, which is building an Abai (Palauan word for meeting place) on Navy Hill.
The first weekend of the tournament will have teams playing a double-elimination format. The playoffs are set for the second week with the format to be determined after the elimination round.
This year’s defending champion is No Ka Oi/Yes to Casino, which defeated the Warriors in the finals.
No Ka Oi was undefeated in the elimination round to advance to the championship round and gain a twice-to-beat advantage over the Warriors.
The winning team was composed of Joey C. Dela Cruz, Mario Sablan, Mel Sakisat, Ton Camacho, Manny Sablan, Jerry Ayuyu, J.R. Suel, J.J. Laniyo, Roy Celis, Nick Castro, Elias Saralu, Toi Celis, Julian Camacho, and Ben Tagabuel. Roque Celis managed the team.
