Saipan Mayor Juan Tudela advises all residents to do their share in minimizing the effects of the power crises.

”We just have to be patient. My advice is that whatever we have right now, we have to take it because CUC [Commonwealth Utilities Corp.] is working very hard to accommodate all of us,” Tudela said.

He said that people must make sure that they are aware with the schedule of power interruptions and what village is affected at a certain period of time.

“People must make sure that they do not buy a lot of food and store in their refrigerators so that they won’t have a problem later when the power is off in their area,” Tudela said.

He said there are some areas that are experiencing about three to six hours and some reports of even half a day of power interruptions.

Basing on media reports, Tudela said CUC is poised to solve the power crisis within a month.

“We hope that the crisis will be over by the end of September,” he said.

He said the Governor is doing everything and prioritizing all efforts to end the power crisis immediately.

Gov. Benigno Fitial earlier declared a state of disaster emergency in the CNMI because the main power plant might explode anytime and may cause a lot of damage.
