Hyatt Regency’s environmental awareness campaign launched

With the current power crisis affecting the business community, Hyatt Regency Saipan’s launching of its environmental awareness campaign or “Go Green” drive is both crucial and timely.
This according to the Garapan landmark’s marketing communications assistant Le Shen during Saturday’s kickoff activity at the American Memorial Park, where the hotel’s employees and their families were seen picking up trash and repainting picnic sites and other facilities there.
Shen said it’s not just an opportunity for managers and rank-and-file employees and their families to mingle but it is part of their company’s commitment to take care of the planet.
Shen explained that they have always wanted to incorporate the campaign in their business strategy but they have guidelines to follow, meaning environmental concerns must be the main goal in this activity.
“We’re doing our share to find ways in addressing these environmental issues that affects all humanity,” she said.
Such guidelines are set by Hyatt Earth committee, an initiative by the Global Hyatt Corporation, one if the world’s premier hotel companies with properties in 45 countries, operates 368 hotels worldwide and currently has properties under development on five continents.
On Saipan alone, the total number of employees is 280.
Shen explained that this activity is a private initiative and the next step is for them to join other companies for similar environmental awareness campaign.
“It’s hard at the start because of the funds involved but as you can see all of us are having fun,” she said.
The hotel just recently formed committees composed of employees from operations and executive department that would implement hotel-wide programs to create environmental awareness and decrease impacts.
They came up with “Family of Responsible and Caring Employees (FORCE), which will focus on initiatives for water and energy management and conservation, waste reduction and recycling, and staff and community awareness campaigns.
Earlier in a press statement, general manager Nick Nishikawa explained that their goal is to constantly invest in the protection of the environment, which they predict will have a long lasting impact on the community as well.
Nishikawa was seen joining the repainting activities along with other department heads
The activity was initiated by the Green Team campaign, which was created by the Communication and Awareness committee chaired by Josephine Mesta.
