Nobert wins SGA July Ace
Former Saipan Golfers Association president Nobert Sablan reigned supreme in the club’s July Ace of the Month after shooting a net 67 last Sunday, July 20, at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.
SGA treasurer Joe I. Sablan actually fired the score to beat last weekend with his net 66, but since he already owned the February Ace, he had to yield the plum to the golfer with the next lowest post-handicap score.
Club rules stipulate that a member is only allowed to win one monthly ace throughout the course of the year.
Even so, Nobert Sablan was not out of the woods yet as his net score tied him with his cousin Martin Sablan. But the former edged out the latter in a scorecard tiebreak.
A total of 21 SGA golfers roamed the scenic Kingfisher Golf Links last Sunday, which also saw the club welcome new members Ron Hodges, brothers Frank and Joe Rosario, Carl Hocog, and Bill Ada.
SGA also recognized tournament and handicap coordinators Mariano Fajardo and retired judge Ed Manibusan, respectively, for creating a new set of tournament rules.
On other events, former Department of Community and Cultural Affairs secretary John L. Babauta and Hodges grabbed prizes for the closest to the green competition, in holes No. 7 and 11, respectively.
SGA also lauded Jung Eun Taeck for contributing the prizes for the event. Meanwhile, winners for the closest to the pins were Jung, Hocog, Manny Alvarez, and March Ace Ned Norita.
There were 11 players that made one or more birdies with Norita and Steve Balakrishna having the most with three each. Norita topped the lowest gross score with his three-over 75, while the highest was a whopping 114.
